Aperture Averaged Scintillation of Gaussian Beam in Strong Oceanic Turbulence

چکیده
Oceanic turbulence caused by salinity and temperature fluctuations underwater affects the characteristics of a transmit laser beam resulting in turbulence-induced intensity (i.e., scintillation) at receiver. optical wireless communication (OOWC) systems employ receiver lens aperture to focus collected light onto photodetector. This way, averaging takes place scintillation on detector is reduced. Using modified Rytov theory, averaged Gaussian passing through strong oceanic examined this study. Effects parameters factor are illustrated. The behaviors limiting cases spherical wave plane also reported. Results show that decreases with increasing size for any level. effect varies depends It shown there close match between point index values obtained from theory conventional low levels turbulence.

Gaussian beam propagation in maritime atmospheric turbulence: long term beam spread and beam wander analysis
Laser beam propagation in maritime environment is particularly challenging, not only for scattering and absorption due to high humidity, but also for a different behavior of atmospheric turbulence with respect to terrestrial propagation. Recently, a new power spectrum for the fluctuations of the refractive index in the Earth’s atmosphere has been introduced to describe maritime atmospheric turb...
متن کاملGaussian Beam Scattering on Two-dimensional Periodic Aperture Array
The diffraction problem of three-dimensional Gaussian beam on the aperture array of rectangular holes is solved. A new algorithm for calculating scattered fields of the beam is proposed. The conditions under which the distortion of the reflected field pattern and the narrowing of the transmitted field pattern appear are studied.
متن کاملEffects of aperture averaging and beam width on a partially coherent Gaussian beam over free-space optical links with turbulence and pointing errors.
Joint effects of aperture averaging and beam width on the performance of free-space optical communication links, under the impairments of atmospheric loss, turbulence, and pointing errors (PEs), are investigated from an information theory perspective. The propagation of a spatially partially coherent Gaussian-beam wave through a random turbulent medium is characterized, taking into account the ...
